Anyone know the effects on coins? I'm mostly referring to negative examples. My father suggested it be done to some coins that have thick acid corrosion and was wondering if it being used in a solvent (tap water even) would be classified as "cleaning a coin" and negatively effect the coins value?

It would not really effect the value if they are already damaged unless it does nothing and makes it worse.

I don't think using an ultrasonic bath, soap or baking soda to remove corrosion is cleaning a coin, but I am not an expert.

Common practice is to use mineral oil to remove grit and other stuff from coins, so as long as the bath isnt chemicals, it should be fine?

Acetone baby! It is the miracle cleaner. You can clean up junk silver and get premiums for it.

The coin can still vibrate in the basket/holder, causing damage.
But, if you think they're already damaged, why not give it a shot.
