How do you identify Proof-like Restrikes from India?

Okay, this is driving me nuts...

It's pretty easy to tell the difference on the larger coins, especially the silver rupees, but I know it's a bit harder to tell on the smaller, especially copper coins.

I recently purchased a small group of 1/12 Anna coins that were (reportedly) purchased from Baldwin's many years ago as restrikes. Now the strike and details on these coins are fantastic, but they do not have any reflective surfaces (which I know is not necessarily a prerequisite for a restrike).

That said, I have a number of other very well struck (supposedly) business strike 1/12 Anna coins to compare them to, and I really can't see much of a difference!

I know someone is going to ask for pics, but I thought I'd throw the question out there before I went to the trouble... ;)

Awhile ago, I've bought coins in the past that were listed as restrikes (but didn't pay restrike prices) that just looked like well struck business strikes to me.

I pointed this out in my feedback to the seller (which was still a positive feedback), and he sent me a personal email explaining how some of the copper restrikes are hard to distinguish from business strikes. Is there any truth to that?

Actually, I think he may be a CoinTalk member... I'll see if I can dig out the email when I get home, so I can post his exact words on the matter.

a restrike is very very easy to distinguish from a business strike :) now there are some people who cant distinguish between proofs and unc but they are usually employed at ngc :D
