I recieved my order of ASE's today and was a little dissapointed. I ordered two rolls so I could pick through them and keep the better ones for myself and sell the rest. Most of them had many small little nicks in them. I doubt any of them would grade MS68 and possibly not even MS67. I ordered these through mintproducts.com, do you suppose they also cherry-picked all their rolls before reselling them? Maybe i was expecting too much to find one or two nicer coins out of 40!
I ordered some from Mint Products also, but haven't gotten mine yet. This concerns me a lot. I'll post again when I receive mine and let you know what condition they're in.
Could have in order to submit the gems to PCGS or NGC? Like the folks who advertise rolls or lots of unsearched coins... I doubt it.
If the nicks you mean are on the skirt...that isn't nicks....from the ones I have looked at it looks like someone wasn't good at frosting or such the die...there are specks on the skirt....but that won't hurt the grade...since all of the rolls I've seen are like that the graders will take that into the grade. But now if you have one without that...look for a high grade. Speedy
I too have not received my order from MintProducts. They claim 5-7 working days and money was taken from my account the day after the order was placed. Its been 10 working days with no movement of status on an item claimed to be in stock. Fortunatly its not alot of money. I will continue to wait.
Dunno if I can agree with that Speedy. Those little shiny spots (luster breaks) in frosted areas are due to hits where one coin has rubbed another. It's not from the dies IMO. And it's not unusual to see them on these coins. Now I will grant you that this year's batch may turn out to be worse in this regard than previous years have been. But if it does, it will take some time for the TPGs to recognize this and make allowances in grading them. Thus many of these will be graded by the same standards as those in previous years. I do agree with your last comment.
Well I wouldn't have agreed with that either if I hadn't seen them....but for all of the coins to have the hits in the same places of the same size don't ring out to me...after looking at some and a dealer also looking at some...the lusterbreaks all are in the same place all of the time. They don't get bigger...they don't get smaller.... Speedy
I received email notice from Mintproducts that my ASEs were shipped yesterday, so I'll take a close look when they arrive.
OK, now the next time you're at the shop take a close look at the coins and where exactly those spots are. I'd be willing to bet that they will be right where one coin touches another when they are stacked on top of each other in the coin tube. And keep in mind, it doesn't necessarily have to be the high points - it can be the low point on one side being touched by the high point on the opposite side for in the tube the coins are all obverse against reverse.
Well....I just happen to have a roll of them by me right now The the breaks in luster that show show on all of the ones I've seen are on the lower part of the skirt...right above the first foot...these are soo small they look like pieces of dust.... Some also have "bag marks" from coin after coin being dropped on them and they are mostly above the lower part of the skirt or on the field or on the breast..... The back of the coins I've looked at seem to be A OK...no marks of any kind Right now I've just looked at the top 4 out of this roll....I see marks from the counting machine...I see "bag marks" and I see these marks...look like more research! (BTW--that spot is still on the sun as it has been the last few years...) Speedy
I agree that on matte coins a hit from another coin will be bright, but I have also seen a series of SEs with the same speck of bright metal in the same place - I really think it was a spot on the die.
GOT MY '06 ASE's TODAY! I ordered 2006 ASE's from two sources: DSS and Mint Products. The ones from DSS had several shiney little specs on nearly all of them; but the ones from Mint Products looked really sharp. In fact, I might even end up sending a couple in for grading. It seems like every year some from one company or another, no matter whom I order from, seem flawed while others are nice. Go figure.
This roll came from a seal Green box Bag marks, Speckles, The speckles look like Struck through speckles. Maybe this means MS 69's and 70's will be rare this year ? :eat: Nice to meet you all.
I don't have them here now.....but the photo above here shows the marks I'm talking about in the same places...the leg above the date... On the above photo the mark on the Breast would be from the counting machine...some of the other marks are from reeding on the edge of a coin hitting that coin.... Speedy
