I have cancel my order for 5 more 2010 ASE that I placed at the same time you placed your order. I'm fearful of getting the rejects that others are or have returned to the mint. I got 5 today from my subscription out of 5 one is damaged, another I had to remove the top of the airtight to remove a FO that was a piece of plastic from the airtight. At first I thought it was scratched as the plastic looked to be on the coins surface like a scratch. I'm requesting a refund for the damaged coin and plan to pick two out of the 4 left for my collection selling off the other two. If the quality continues to be an issue with the US mint I'll pay for a graded coin from a dealer before I buy a pig in a poke!
Finally!!! The mint shipped my coins this afternoon! I ordered them at 12:30 ish on the 19th... They did however send them next day air.. so that was kinda cool.
That's a pretty thin margin. I'd be weary of buying the 2010's on line considering all the poor quality everyone is reporting. If I had a really good one in this bunch I don't think I'd throw it up on Ebay for a couple bucks profit.....actually less than that or even at a loss when you consider the $5 postage the mint charged to ship one to you.
This looks to be a widespread problem 2010 proof eagles are junk http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=796336
If anyone us reading any other forums and should see any other examples of problem coins posted (with pics) or sees any articles from numismatic publications, blogs, etc, that begin reporting on problem 2010-W Proof ASE coins, please post a link here or on CT.
Just checked my order for the coins that I ordered in the early evening of "opening day". It's been pushed back to the 14th of December. Seems like each day that I check, the order gets pushed back another one or two days. Originally the coins were slated to be shipped on the 2nd. I've still got the option to cancel but I feel the need to conduct a little experiment. With all of the coins going back to the mint, because of dissatisfied concerns regarding them, I'd be interested to see if I receive one of the questionable coins that others have complained about. Simply put,to see if I get a coin that someone else has rejected. Now we're never really gonna know if I receive a rejected coin but if I get an order of ASE's that are "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs", then maybe, just maybe, our suspicions are justified.....
I returned 5 units today, maybe I should have hidden a note behind the inner lining of the velvet presentation boxes for another collector to find and contact me so they knew the product was previously returned?
I've read that the mint will have plenty of silver next week from the returns of ASE proofs! Now if they can get the silver converted to 3" planchets by 12/31/2010 we'll be fine!
i just canceled my 2nd order. they were now pushed back till 12/15. i know by then i would be getting returns or rejects. i am happy with the first 5 i received. :thumb:
Mint indicated that 10 units shipped today 11/30/2010. Rejects? I guess only having them in hand will tell that.
I don't think you will have rejects yet... unless somehow HSN TV dealers and any other dealers actually got early delivery and returned those they deemed problems. But I don't think there's any credible evidence of this happening prior to official retail release date.
got my e-mail confirmation, my ASE Proof shipped 11/29 Any bets on whether or not I may have to return it ? There has been much dissatisfaction it seems with the finished product being shipped of late.
This recent issue of CW has Dealers offering the ASE Proofs at $54.95 . Guess those EBAY prices will be coming down .
Well I got my second order today. I mentioned earlier that I felt lucky to get the two subscriptions in without any flaws. My luck ran out. This one is full of those haze blotches. Back it goes. I'm thinking maybe using the credit and the difference for one of those $5 proofs. Is that a good idea??? PS does anyone think those Ebay silver eagles going for cheap are these problem ones everyone is reporting?
