Forgive me for my ignorance but I read that the mintage for those were high 300 and low 400 thousands vs 600 to 800 hundred thousands for most of the rest of the years. I understand a premium do to a lower mintage but were the coins also less quality? The difference in pricing goes up 5 to 10 times while the mintage only doubled. Sorry for the SEP should have said ASE and I don't know how to edit the title
You are correct about the total mintage for '93 + '94, they are the lowest for any normal production year, and the number of PR70 for both NGC + PCGS are probably only a couple of hundred. So, with many collectors, and only a couple of hundred PR70 available, only the collectors with very deep pockets are able to complete their sets because they are able to pay the high premium. The total of PR 70 available is very small, and thus very expensive. Personally, I really enjoy my PR69 coins at a fraction of the price of the PR70. The PR69 may not be perfect, but then without a magnifying glass I really can't tell the difference, and I'm able to buy many more coins :>)
I agree, I'm happy with my PR-69's. Its the best grade to have because its doesn't always cost thousands and its close enough to perfect. Plus on my PR-69 ASE, I can't really tell a difference over a 70 because I have looked at many 70's. Not much of a difference in looks...
