Uruguay

I got these coins a few days ago. It is an "Old" Uruguay. I like it very much.

1 centesimo 1869, bronze, weight - 5 g., mintage - 1000000. Minted in Birmingham.

 

2 centesimos 1869, bronze, weight - 10 g., mintage - 3000000. Coins of this type minted in Paris, Berlin and Vienna.

4 centesimos 1869, bronze, weight - 20 g., mintage - 6250000. Minted in Birmingham. It's a very big coin (as a USA's half-dollar).

And the last coin.
50 centesimos 1893, silver .900, weight - 12,5 g., mintage - 500000. Minted in Santiago.

I collect a lot of Uruguay coins. These are nice big chunks of copper thats for sure. Hvae you seen the 40 centesimos copper piece? Thing couold knock out a bear.

 

No. I haven't a 40-centesimos coin

 

Very pretty coins, I always liked the radiating sun on some of the coins of Uruguay. I have only one with the sun, which isn't in that great of shape...

I also have this rare Uruguay 1930 Centenario 1 Peso banknote that I got from a professor of the classics that I used to work for. Being born in 1910, he likely got it in Uruguay around the time it was being used as legal tender. The note was printed in France, I already have all the information about it, I just thought I would add it to this thread. It is quite beautiful.... and the examples I have seen sell have gone for a couple hundred USD depending on condition. This one is in fairly nice condition, but was folded long ago, note the watermark of Artigas.

Ive posted most of mine in differnet threads but ill add another one here for the abstract sun refrence compared to the old copper more traditional sun ones.

 

A several coins yet. Rather simple but nice design.

20 centesimos 1857. I like this coin very much!

 

50 centavos 1943, silver .700, weight - 7 g., mintage - 10800000 pcs. The single release only.

 

My new purchase.
10 pesos 1961, silver .900, weight - 12, 5 g. "Sesquicentennial of revolution against Spain".

 

I own just these two: one toned (KM#15) and one well worn (KM#31). Please let me know if the KM#s are incorrect. Thanks and enjoy!
