Where can you get BEP strapped bills? Can you go to any bank? Is there value in the strapped bills or just face value?

I don't know how it is in the States but here in Canada, it's being at the right place at the right time to get the uncirculated, unopened straps. The banks recycle the currency they get and it isn't until a heavy payday or a holiday weekend that they'll order in new stacks.

Most of the new stacks will have common notes in them but there is a chance to find replacement (star) notes and fancy serial numbers as well as error notes. But, don't snub the stacks of "recycled" notes. Check out this thread and you'll see what members have been finding:

Yes just go to the bank and ask for them. If they do not have them they can order them usually.

Do they charge you if they have to order them? Im starting to get into paper currency. I have a few one dollar silver certificate and a five dollar silver certificate. Do most of you guys search the straps or leave them unsearched? Is there big value in unsearched straps?

    They have not charged me.
I order say 1,000 in ones and take the whole bundle then dispose of them at other places.

so most people search for star notes and then get ride of the rest? is there no value in having a stack in sequencial order?

    There can be depending.

What I'd look for is: Stars, errors and fancy's such as radars, ladders, binary's, low s/n's and repeaters.

Plus you might just want to save a few of the consec's in each district for the future to see what the pop ends up.

what is a radar and ladder?

a "ladder" is a serial number that's something like 12345678, where the numbers go up (or down) in a sequence. "radars" are palindromes, like 12344321. Each person who collects fancy serial numbers probably has their own threshhold for what counts as "interesting"... someone might consider 00259952 to be a good radar number, while someone else might only count it if it uses all the numbers like 00255200. Just depends on what you like.
