You would think that with today's technology with minting coins that the milk spots and hazy areas would be nil. I commend you for studying your coins with so much fervor and returning the defective coins would be what I would do. If they aren't aware of the problem how can they resolve it? Even with the flaws your coins are lovely.
Thanks. Yes, I will return the coins and plan to include prints of the photos I made showing the problems as they may be hard for the non-collector type receiving end of my return. I really hope there will be someone in Quality Control who will take note of my reason for return.
I agree though it makes having a flawless one that much more meaningful. I guess if they all were clean then the only way to have a special coin would be to go microscopic to get get the highest grade That said I do have one more Eagle ordered and i have a feeling the luck i had with the first couple will run out based the silver half proof I just looked at along with the posts I 'm reading here.
That's true about seeking coins without imperfections. I don't wish to seek for perfection through a microscope, but these issues I worry could work to deteriorate the surface of an otherwise flawless coin over time. I think it best to ship some of these back, they are too expensive to accept and risk potential grade nightmares down the road.
I would suggest getting hold on someone in the QC department of the mint (if possible). Just sending a couple of prints to a warehouse might not get the job done. Jon
I will try, just not sure who that contact in QC maybe let alone where to locate that contact information.
Thanks for the informative post. My 10 proof Eagles are sitting at the P.O.. I will pick them up tomorrow and let you know how many exhibit the smudges. You know.....I have never seen that problem with Kookaburra's,Panda's and various other countries silver proofs or unc's....what up US mint?
I have seen Maple leaf bullion with the milky haze, neither spots nor these fluidy smudges, just what looks like a bluish haze that dried on the surface of the coin, always on the flat fields, never the devices.
I had 6 of these on order. Then I saw pictures of these from people who got their's. The grotesque Laser etching just kills it, Like the New Silver Park Quarters.,, coupled with the milking ,and hazing, and lots of mintage... I cancelled mine immediatley. These are as ugly a coin as I have ever seen.....No need to see them them in hand, As I have the New Silver Park Quarters.., which I won't order anymore... But each their own, if you like them, order them....., just my .02
LOLOL....Hehehe.. SO true. I have found where it is going, just don't know how much I'm putting in...
The Eagle's are better than the quarters by a long shot, that is if they don't have the haze. Sure, the cameo looks a little artificial but I was pleasantly surprised how the Eagle came out vs the state park quarters. Those have the finish of one of those silver sparklers you get on the 4th of July.
that stinks that you have problems with your coins. i got mine in on saturday and they are all flawless. they are nice and frosty where they need to be and all the rest of the coin is pure mirror. i dont have any of the haze marks that you have at all. hopefully my other 2 on order get here are in good condition
UPDATE: Just received a USPS delivery confirmation regarding the five (5) 2010 Proof ASEs that I shipped back to PBGS for a refund due to the 'haze' issue I detailed in the thread(s) on this issue. Glad to have them off my hands. I hope they don't send these out to another collector.
