I would just look out for any damage to the coins. Out of 18, I had 12 that had breaks in the frost (some were very minor) and one coin had a scratch on the mirror field next to Liberty. I even took it out of the holder to verify that it was a scratch. I will keep 5 and send the rest back. Of the five I am keeping though, I think they are all PR70s. I couldn't find anything wrong with them.

I would never trust coins left very long in those acidic cardboard boxes that the Mint Fulfillment center ships products in -AND- the Fulfillment company has been known to make mistakes packing products, even packing them so poorly as to allow shifting of contents while in transit such that coins or OGP can be damaged along the way. I would NEVER buy a coin from a dealer or individual sealed in such a way that I cannot see it beforehand. I would be even more skeptical if there was any limitation on returning the item to the dealer or seller if the item was denied return for having been opened. Too risky. Of course we buy from the Mint sight unseen, but we have return policy protection and can often get replacements if something goes wrong.

    Finally got mine today!

Both subscription orders arrived ahead of delivery estimate date of 11/27 vs. 11/29.

I will be taking some time to open them up, inspect them all and will share pics when I get the camera set up.

    I'm going in... :smile

Got my four today. The quality on all of them are excellent. I could not find one single break in the frost with a 5x loupe and the mirrors are spotless. I'm happy.:thumb:

Well, I've had a look at 3 of the 8 I ordered. The quality of the strikes is nice. I've not found any breaks to the frosting and the grainy patterning of this type of frosting is not as bothersome as I'd worried it might be obliterating details. HOWEVER---> On two of the three I've inspected so far, I'm seeing a faint haze in the field beneath "In God We Trust" which has the look of a wash that wasn't rinsed off. It's noticeable under magnification with the light at just the right angle, but not noticeable by the naked eye. One of them also has two very faint, almost transparent, spots on the obverse just to the right of Ms. Liberty on the obverse. These have the shape of milk spots I've seen on bullion ASEs. I suggest everyone inspect your proof eagles closely, with a good loupe. I'm just using a 5x Aspheric Bausch & Lomb, but it's clear as day under magnification.

edit: I've taken a look at all 8 and 5 of them have this haze. It appears most prominently under IGT and around the Y of LIBERTY on the obverse and extending from the wingtips of the eagle on the reverse. A sixth unit I have has a minor, to acceptably unnoticeable touch of this haze on the reverse and all but one is free entirely of this haze. It is reminiscent of the kind of early stage toning I've seen on Brown Box Ikes, which start out blueish in the mirrored fields, only I think this is something the Mint didn't rinse off during production as it has a fluid-y look, and some reticulation from drying on the coin.

I am a newbie and was looking on US Mint website and I see that the coins are on backorder...my question is that they are still going to let me order and I am wondering does anyone know how long it may take to get them? Thanks

The product is still being offered on the site Firevfd37. Put your order in if you want one. If the product was to be out of stock or sold out they would indicate a "waiting list". I see no such indication.

And welcome to the forum old fellow....:)

Very nice, I'm impressed. Are you going to hold them or sell them ?

I will post some more photos in a few minutes detailing some problems most of the coins I received have, as I mentioned a few posts back, yesterday.

About 5 maybe 6 are going back to the Mint.

I will keep 2-3 for myself. No immediate intention to flip them. If they come to carry a steady premium down the road I will have one or two to deal with if/when the time is suitable. I'm in no way holding out for any big numismatic premium on these given the sizeable mintage.
