As it looks as if I will not be in town for the big Houston Coin show next week I went to the Pasadena coin show SW Houston today. It was a fair sized show with 50 tables and about 30 dealers. Pickings were slim for my favorite coins but I did manage to pick up a few. Anyway here are my four purchases. Feel free to grade and price away. Coin 1 PCGS rattler holder Coin 2 NGC older holder Coin 3 NGC newer holder Coin 4 Raw
I've not studied these type of coins much so it's basically a blind attempt for me, hope I don't offend with these guesses: Coin 1 PCGS rattler holder: EF in the old holder. (If put in a new holder, then Genuine - damaged *Verdi Gris*) Coin 2 NGC older holder: MS-60 with big die-crack on reverse at 7 o'clock position. Not sure of the color designation. Coin 3 NGC newer holder: MS-63 Coin 4 Raw: F/EF borderline – needs conservation and could grade better if eye appeal is improved from removal of verdi gris.
No offense taken you came close on 1 coin to the numbers on the holders I need to improve my photo skills me thinks..
I am guessing as much to learn from others providing their grades for your coins. I think your photos are fine, but if there is a lot of dust on the slabs I would try to blow that off with some canned air or wipe the slabs with a dry lens cleaning cloth (used for camera lenses) prior to taking photos.
I will take stab at the grades and hopfully I will not offend also. Coin 1 VF30 Coin 2 AU 50 Coin 3 EF 40 Coin 4 EF 40 Detail grade
I wish the obverse of the 1871 were a little cleaner, has charactoristics of a KF-2-TDO, but not sure...
I'm impressed... Its a KF-4-TDO Struck with the 69 obv hub then the 70 obv hub note the lack of the 5th leaf which if had been present would have made it a KF-2-TDO. I have plenty of KF-2's but this is the first decent KF-4 I have seen
I re-shot coins 1 and 2 I was not happy with the first attempt. Coin 1 now shows the diagnostics for KF-4-TDO much better and the colour on coin 2 is much closer to the actual coin
