I was lucky enough to purchase these coins in the shop this morning and I wanted to share. We have the flowing hair which is 3 leaf head of 1795 and is attributed as B-5. Next is the draped bust small eagle type. This 1797 is the 7 stars right with large letters variety. I have identified it as a B-1. The draped bust heraldic eagle is a 1799 6 stars right, normal date. I have identified it as B-9. Enjoy!
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing! I don't see myself getting any Bust dollars anytime soon. I just noticed, these do not have the denomination on them anywhere?
The toning just sneaks on in with that 1797! Beautiful and very calm and subtle at the same time. Some beautiful pieces.
If I remember correctly the denomination is denoted in the edge lettering. I believe the edge lettering says, "ONE HUNDRED CENTS OR ONE DOLLAR" (or something similar).
I really love the '95 B5. The diagonal bar in the upper left obverse (just off Liberty's hair) field immediately identifies this variety. It is very faint on this example. It is the smaller less noticeable, more horizontal line that bisects at the bottom the larger more prominent, vertical, wider, damage or strike though issue. It is the first PUP one should look for when attributing a 1795 $1 and odds are that you will see it as the b5 makes up almost 1/3 to 1/2 of all remaining die marriages for 1795 and is probably the most common die marriage for all the early dollars 1794-1803. The first is the highlighted PUP on the Cardinal B5 This is the highlighted PUP on LostDutchman's B5
