I found this lying in the street and picked it up because it looked cool and I have never seen something like it before. It is small like a quarter and looks like it has been circulated. These are the exact inscriptions on it from top to bottom, "Communicate Saloon PIA 1994 BY MATAHARI". The "Communicate Saloon" part is small and on the top part of the coin and looks italicized. The "PIA" is big and in the middle and the cross of the A is like an ocean wave. The last part is small, on the bottom, and looks normal. This is on both sides of the coin. Thank you for any help you can give me.
I believe it to be a token. Similiar to the ones they sell at Chuck E. Cheese for the arcade games. It was issued by the Saloon and was probably used in the juke box or shuffleboard games, maybe even the pool table ? Guessing here, because that's the games I have seen in bars and saloons. I didn't see a value amount on it, so I don't think it was used as currency to buy food or beverages. Just my thoughts about it. gary
Thank you gary, I have been trying to figure out where it is from. I have searched on the internet for any information and couldn't find anything. I want to at least narrow down to a state
I don't know what it is. It may be a bar token passed out by a bartender & used for a free drink. Have you ever been at a bar with a full drink in your hand & someone buys a round of drinks? Sometimes, the bartender will give you a chip which you can use for your next drink.
Google the text on the coin: Communicate Saloon PIA 1994 BY MATAHARI Here is a better pic from the web site above. Matahari is/was an Indonesian department store, think Wal-mart. Official page of Matahari hypermart This could well be a token used in the store as a credit system, for an in store arcade/game or vending machine, parking token or for other promotional purposes. FWIW: from Mall WTC Matahari It seems that in the Indonesian language 'mata hari' of 'matahari' means 'sun', but may translate to something more poetic like the 'eye of dawn' or the 'eye of the day'. Keep looking, there is bound to be a resource online for this piece somewhere... :thumb:
It's worth something, me and my husband just got one for the cashier at country mart, with our change
