This is from a while back but did anyone follow this?

    The Eisenhower Dollar Collection

This was a guy that just kept Ike's for twenty some odd years, over 175,000 of them and then sold the lot on EBay. I was just wondering if anyone ever heard who bought them and if anything really special came out of them.

This does not qualify as collecting! More like obsessive compulsive disorder!!

Do you realize the losses with the inflation rate on the dollar through the mid and late 1970's?

Trying to find early IKEs in true MS65 conditions or better are really tough! Look at the values for a 71-P IKE in MS65 grades. We're talking almost $150 to $200!

Like anything, they made a bunch but today, very few survive in these grades. Collectors balked at the poor strikes of these coins when they first came out. Also, many ended up in Vegas for the $1 slots. Either way, if you see a nice high luster, nice struck IKE, KEEP it.

Can't say you will find such coins in the pile this guy has...

Since we are talking about IKE's....how about helping me with the grade on this one....yes...it is still in the Mint packing...and such a nice thing...a mint workers fingerprint on the back ;)
Oh well....I can see this baby going a pretty high grade...but will the fingerprint kill that?...I was thinking MS65/66

    Speedy

PS--Midas...its nice to hear that MS65+ Ikes are going up...I bought a nice ANACS MS65 Ike a few years ago pretty cheap--I think it would cross over if need be...nice golden toning.

Ah.... a 73-S silver IKE in original mint packaging. Looks like an easy 66, maybe a 67 from my quick glance.

Look at some of these prices (just a guide):

    1972 Type 3 60, 800, 7500

Midas--one question...where do you get your prices??
I went and searched on Heritage and all year long the 1973-S MS66 and MS67 have been selling for under $55.....some under $40....it doesn't add up with yours???....the ones that were getting the $$$ was the MS68's.

/agree. That is hoarding, not collecting. Collecting suggests you systematicall organize what you acquire in some way.

    Still, love that picture, lol...

I wonder what the final price was for the coins and what was the cost of shipping?

I've used that in the past but Ended Online Auction search's are also free...and more in line with what the market is paying.

I betcha 20 years from now there will be a "Goldan Dollar Man" hoard sold on ebay.

Care to ponder what the shipping costs were? The "collection" only weighs 4 tons.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.99% of Ike dollars suck but if you buy some of those "silver" (40%?)Blue package Ikes, you can get fantastic strikes and great BU luster for not a lot of money. They are extremely undervalued IMHO.
The marks in this photo are all on the plyafilm cover.

I have been doing just that for many years now; acquiring the 40% unc Ikes in the blue pack.

What a nice bunch of Ikes I now have. Someday they will be appreciated and the price will rise dramatically!!

I think I remember that the lot didn't sell for the reserve price. I'm not positive, but I thought it didn't sell.
