Your question is a good one. The quote in my post was from " Fishy" , so we will let him answer your question.

The standards are "similar" and both PCGS and NGC do good work and are well respected companies in the marketplace. Some give a slight edge to PCGS but it's very slight to me. I'm a member at both.

Back to ASE proofs: The PF70UCAM pre-sales on eBay were all NGC last week. This puzzled me. I was surprised that no PF70DCAM pre-sales of PCGS coins could be found. One PCGS 70 pre-sale did pop up over the weekend though. $185! I still wonder what's going on there.

What is curious to me, is that this seller has 10 to sell .

What percentage of the 2010 ASE proofs sb PF70? Should all the others be PF69 or will some be PF68?

You can look at PCGS's Population reports from prior years to get an idea. And yes, some will likely grade 68. Here's a sampling from 2007 and 2008:

    2007: PF70DCAM was 16.7%, PF69DCAM was 82.0%, PF68DCAM was 1.0%, PF67DCAM or lower was 0.3%.

    2008: PF70DCAM was 22.1%, PF69DCAM was 76.9%, PF68DCAM was 0.8%, PF67DCAM or lower was 0.2%.

As you can see, the vast majority of proof ASE submitted to PCGS from these years graded PF69DCAM. This might help expalin why most eBay pre-sales were for NGC PF70UCAM!

Not sure where they may be in the system, but FedEx indicates this evening, both shipments (separate orders), have left the FedEx location, Indiana.
