Hey gang! I recently got this coin back from grading. I was wondering what you toning gurus thought this guy should bring. Thanks in advance for the help!
That coin should easily sell for $250 to $300 on Ebay based on that color and the star designation....if you take less your leaving money on the table If it was on obverse toner then it would bring even more...
I agree with Shane, 5X-7X wholesale is appropriate for that coin. List it at 7X and take any offer over 5X IMO.
You guys amaze me... I have never really delved into the world of "toners" aside from the occasional coin I come across. I apprecieate the help. I am going to try to learn how to price toned coins. I know that people prefer obverse toning for Morgans... is there any other series where one side is preferred towards another?
Matt, Pretty much every series is more desirable with obverse toning. Of course Morgans are the most commonly toned series which means you will see the price difference more often.
Here is another one I'm a bit ashamed of. I paid (what I feel) is a lot of money for this coin. It's in a PCGS MS63 Rattler holder. The colors are more pastel then most toners I have seen. The part that is showing up as a rustly color from 9-12 is really a nice champagne... other then that the other colors are about right. Thoughts?
Most rainbow toned Morgan Dollars are the result of bag toning. This one is an EOR (End of Roll) toner. I have found that the niche for this type of toning is even smaller than that for more traditionally toned coins, but those that like them will pay handsomely for them. The colors on this coin are from the fist two progressions and have an almost Battle Creek look to them. This coin should sell for 3X-4X IMO, but you may want to consider auctioning this one. If two EOR collectors get a hold of the auction, it could bring strong money (5X+). Personally, I would not go above $125 for this coin as the reverse just doesn't do it for me.
$250 on first coin (maybe a bit more), and about half that for the 2nd. Lehigh explained the rationale well, and I will not repeat it.
I think the estimates given on the end roller are very fair retail wise. I have seen worse coins pull $175 but for me $125 to $150 would be the selling price 9 out of 10 times on the bay.
