Pretty cool! Pretty pricey! http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-MILITARY-P...28492?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a35161
Wood is a super bad thing to store coins and sensitive papers in. Might be good for tools or something else though. :thumb:
I'm a box fiend too, but I go more for old wood and paper cigar boxes with litho printed vignettes on them and hopefully with some of the old tax revenue labels still hanging onto them. I don't store coins in or near them.
Yeah i saw that!! Really cool piece but $1,000 though i think it,s authentic i wouldnt Pay that kind of money unless it was already pre-filled before delivery...LOL My 1,200 lb safe works good for me now
Acids from the wood or finishes and also the fasteners (nails, screws, staples etc.) can damage paper. It's best to store paper in acid-free boxes or between acid-free sheets.
i guess you can learn something new every day, what about the holders for paper notes? do those contain acid?..
By far the best is Mylar-D, this is the same material used by PCGS for all of there currency Slabs avoid sleeves containing P.V.C over time will harden, crack and yellow and can Cause damage to your note!
It would be cool to store A MPC album in, but a little too pricey. I think this would appeal more to people who collect war artifacts then to someone who collects MPC's
You should be able to find the Mylar-D holders on e-bay or if you get them at your local coin shop Talk to your dealer if he doesnt know i wouldnt trust anything valuable in them because most Likely they contain P.V.C
If you like military stuff AND coins, look into ammo boxes. Make sure the gasket is intact and it is clean with no holes. Then put your coins and some silica gel (new or recharged) in it and lock the lid closed. Air tight, water tight and slightly fire resistant. They stack real well too!
I once got a call from a guy looking to liquidate a world paper collection, my mouth was watering as he described the notes in his collection. When I got there, I found the notes had been kept in holders that had broken down over the years & left a nasty, oily film on the notes- ruined every one of them. I purchase my Mylar-D sleeves from either Denlys or ABC Papercollect.
