Just got these in today. They are the 2nd series (1948), 3rd series (1962) and 4th series (1972) 1 pound Special Vouchers. The first two are printed by the Thomas de la Rue & Company. I don't know about the third one. All three are in uncirculated condition. They are very inexpensive which leads me to believe there were a lot that were unused. But they are gorgeous notes! I couldn't get my scanner to work:computer:! The pics don't show just how beautiful they are. BTW, I got two sets of these.......might be a contest in the near future:smile.
Those are wonderful notes! Love the intricate engraving on them... and yes nice big scans would be a bit better Dave
Literally millions of these notes were sold by the Ministry of Defence in a single lot auction in the 1980s. They hit the market soon thereafter. They were used in British military facilities overseas. The last place they were used was in Berlin ending in 1979.
50,000 BMA Series X one shilling notes were inadvertantly issued in Yugoslavia at the end of 1944 and withdrawn shortly after. When Theo Van Elmpt wrote his book on BMA notes in the 1990s only three were known. More have come out since but they are still considered scarce.
