I have a 1983 mint set containing the following information. The white envelope is labeled 'United States Mint Set' 1983 Uncerculated Coins. The envelope contains 1 Denver 5 coin set and 1 Philadelphia 5 coin set in sealed plastic packaging (half, quarter, dime, nickel and penny). The token in both sets is white with the mint mark '1983 Denver Mint Coins Uncirculated Mint set'. the reverse of the token reads 'kp selected and packaged for Coins Magazine Numismatic Newscoin prices, Iola, WI'. How do they compare to a standard 1983 Mint set? I have no idea how to price the sets. Should I price them as a set, or should I price them as individual uncirulated coins?
no mint sets were made in 1983. just souvenir sets which are worth a little bit(fairly decent amount).
Check out this one that sold on e-bay..... http://cgi.ebay.com/1983-US-Mint-Set-/350403847594?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item5195b265aa
Actually, Green, I think this is the set that the OP is referring to.http://cgi.ebay.com/1983-Uncirculat...28?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3a602ac104 I found another one that went for $99.00 so they go for a little under the official mint souvenir sets.
Yes d.t this set looks like the set, however the reverse of the token button reads 'kp selected and packaged for Coins Magazine Numismatic Newscoin prices, Iola, WI'. Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/showthread.php?t=140612&pagenumber=#ixzz15aORNyya
Cut the sets up so that each coin is still in cellophane and then sell them individually. Collectors are looking for this date in higher grades.
The '83 Krause sets are fairly good but not as good as the '82's. Choice and gem coins bring a significant premium and this especially applies to the quarters.
Yes. It should be worth as much as the P and D souvenir sets combined. It might be a little harder to sell since many people want an "official" set but the coins in this set will on average be a little nicer than the souvenir set. If it's a choice or gem set or the quarters are nice you can probably get more and sell it more easily by busting it up. If it's a problem set then it should be kept together.
