What about this one? The reverse is a bit blurry and the coin has better luster than the photos. :eat:

I would say MS-62.Maybe 63,but I don't think so because there's some stuff on the suface of the obverse.;) B12

Wyatt lemme ask you - what's going on in the fields of that coin ? It's hard to tell from the pics but it looks like it's seen some rough handling and has lots of hairlines. And right in front of Liberty's face, are those just light scuff marks or scratches ? Look at them with a loupe, if metal has been moved they are scratches. If just scuff marks there will be no metal moved. This makes a great deal of difference as to grade - and if they are scratches & are severe enough the coin is not gradeable.

MS 62. Maybe PVC or damaged, depending on what becomes of GDJMSP's questioning...Mike

Yeah, they look like they might be scratches under magnification but I'm not well versed enough to know the difference between a 'scratch' and a normal bag mark. I personally wouldn't have graded this coin any higher than MS60 and I was think it might even be circulated when I examined it but then I read about how the 1921 has such a shallow 'flat' looking strike and it does have exceptional detail on the obverse. So being a novice I posted it for you all. Thanks for looking.

Coins like this provide a good learning experience for all of us so I am tickled to death to have folks post them. Telling an AU58 from an MS60/61 can be hard to do and many misgrade them.

At first I wondered about there being minor wear on the bonnet and the left wing's upper edge. But that could be where the frost was rubbed off from bag marks. Generally the coin appears to have pretty good luster, although broken in many places. That combined with the hairlines would limit to the lower MS grades as others have said.

But scratches are another matter entirely. A scratched coin is considered a damaged coin and generally ungradeable - if it is severe enough. But that is a fine line that you only learn with experience. And the only way to learn and get the experience is to talk about it with others and look at lots of coins.

Thanks - if it's a scratch its very light and looking at my slabbed 1890 MS-62 it has a similiar mark on it though perhaps finer and lighter so maybe this is a scuff and not a scratch but I can't really say until I've seen enough coins. Once I get my photo skills down hopefully I can get an opinion on a couple more coins in my collection that are challenging.
