Can anyone tell me if this half cent is real? Its in really bad shape and I would like the opinions of some more experienced collectors. Thanks.
I can't imagine that anyone would want to fake something that looks like that so I would have to say that it is genuine.
Exactly correct, the salts and other vicious meterials in the earth have corroded this coin over time. I will also have to agree with gopher29 EITHER THAT OR THE PITTING IS FROM THE ABSOLUTE WORST COUNTERFEIT I HAVE EVER SEEN
Thanks Everyone. I know its in bad shape but It came with some other things. I'm thinking of useing it as a hole filler in my type set until i get one better. Just wanted to make sure it was real first. Thanks Conder. I really figured it would just stay unknown.
Sounds good to me. I had eliminated 1800 and 1802 as possibilities. The close denominator seems to be the most diagnostic for the 1806 C-1.
The final digit of the date is high, close to the 0 (which eliminates 04 C-13), and it seems to have a round bottom. The 4 on 04 C-12 is rather large. I still hink it's an 06 C-1.
