Is there a website that list the Mintages of each coin, specifically the amount of proof sets made each year, silver proof sets, uncirculated quarter and nickel rolls? Any help will be appreciated. I searched www.usmint.gov, and didnt come up with any amounts. thanks, Jeff
thanks guys, i take it that the mint does not know how many they will strike of each coin in the future? or how many uncirulated quarter rolls in mint boxes or mint sets? that website is really helpful. Thanks Again, Jeff
The mint strikes as many coins as they think they are going to need based on a report given to them by the Federal Reserve a few months in advance. In some years the Fed calls for fewer coins than they thought they would need. So this means the mint has coins left over. And this means that the next year they will strike fewer coins of that denomination. As for Unc rolls, those coins come right from the coins struck for circulation. The mint will order as many packaged as they think they can sell. If they sell more - they order more to be rolled. Mint and Proof sets are produced based on expected sales. If sales go slow, they produce less. If sales are brisk - they produce more. Nobody, including the mint, knows in advance how many will be produced.
