A few days ago, I decided to treat myself, and so I purchased about 600 wheat pennies off of ebay. $35 all together. I found it to be a pretty good deal. They arrived in the mail today, so I opened it up. I'm about halfway through. Most of them are late 30's and early 40's, in pretty good shape too. But the crown jewel of it all was... a 1909 V.D.B.! It's about VF-20, give or take. It's one of the pieces that I've really been hunting for. Today's been a good day
im never to sure about those "bulk" buys. because for all I know they could just put one good coin in the batch, you know what i mean? Like i bought rolls of wheat pennies from a store, and what do you know every roll had at least one steel penny and a 1919 in it. so basicly you paid $35 for a 1909 VDB thats worth 16 in the shape its in. dont get me wrong, I would still be excited to. but really, were any of the other pennies worth anything at all? i just dont trust people online...
Well, so far I've found 42 teenies, and 30 steelies too. There's only been about a dozen pennies from the 50's, actually. I'm moreover a coin hoarder, and wheat cents are by far my favourite.
Congratulations on your good fortune. Even if the 1909 does not cover all the cost, you came out ahead by finding it. You could have easily gotten a whole bunch of 41-42s or 35s. But we do this for the sake of the hunt, not necessarily the profit factor. Cool ! gary
