I want the government to make a commemorative Mercury dime or maybe
even a mercury half dollar out of silver.

    Wouldn't it be nice??

I like the winged liberty design, as well as the standing liberty design. I see where you are coming from. However, I am just sick to death of our mint having such lame talent that they need to constantly rehash old designs. Its sickening seeing these old classic designs redone over and over. Was our only creativity in the late 1700's and early 20th century?

Sorry, I just think its an abomination how they drag up old designs to try to help sales. I seriously cringe at a buffalo $50. The true beauty of that design was that it was on a nickel, but it had at least a quarters worth, (area) of design. To cannibalize it like they have is sad.

How about this, a new commemorative that is based on the styling of these great coins, but let the mint artists create something new? I always loved the 1988 $5 Olympic obverse, and was sad it was only on a coin for a year. kick all of the stupid dead presidents off of coins, and let the mint create all new designs emblematic of liberty like they did in 1916? That might be enough to get me collecting US coins again.

It would be nice if they did start minting Mercury dimes again. But as medoraman said, they need to stop re-creating original designs. All though I can live with the Silver Eagle design because they re did the reverse.

Interesting posts I agree with you medoraman, we do need talented engravers at the mint, now aday's they produce them on computer, have the computer engrave them and a specialist re-touches them up ever notice coins after 1982 have parts of the design that don't exceed the thickness of a piece of paper.

Take a look at a 1964 penny and compare it to a 2007 penny, though the design is almost the same, it seems like a greater impression in the 1964 penny as it was hand carved.

I just love the mecrury dime which is why I suggested this topic for discussion

Indeed true, I love our countrys original coin concept "No Presidents or poltical figures, nor famous people should be depicted" When did this change in our change

I love them too, (have a few thousand or so). I just wish they would create coin designs AS GOOD as mercuries, SL, WL, buffalo nickels, etc again, but fresh, new, exciting designs.

Indeed true, a lot of our coins (currently in circulation are approching the 75 year mark and pennies have already hit the 100 year mark granted they have changed the reverse

How do we propose a change in our circulating pocket change to congress
