Silver and gold coinage has been demonetized, and therefore can be melted without fear of reprisal from any government entity. Technically, the ban the mint instituted on melting circulating coinage is unconstitutional. If you feel like getting enough copper cent searchers together to file a class-action lawsuit, you should be able to win... but the Mint will draw things out and appeal it all the way up to the US Supreme Court.
No they haven't been. They are still legal tender. But the laws outlawed the melting of gold and silver coins wer repealed many years ago.
Well, also look at the "bullion" coins as actual coins. There is going to be a collector base for them, and they are going to want the best piece possible. They are going to want a grade of 70 and it to be safe in a slab, rather than loose. If you start question why these coins need to be slabbed, they why do the others?
Good question TT. But you and I and everyone else here knows that answer. It's all part of collecting and preserving what you have collected for umpty ump reasons and having fun and enjoyment doing it.
