I purchased some very nice Lincoln Cents at an auction last weekend. All are dated prior to the 1930's and most appear to me to be in MS condition. The other bidders at the auction were focused on the silver dollars that these beautiful Lincolns didn't get any attention. I got the all, believe it not for $8.50. Normally, my experience is that a deal that is too good to be true, typically is too good to be true. I'd welcome opinions on this coin. Are there any flaws that I am missing? Has it been polished, cleaned etc? I am thinking it must be at least MS 60 and maybe MS 63.
Thank you. I knew there had to be something going on. I recall looking at the ear, and thinking to myself that something didn't seem right. I bet all of those pennies that I bought are polished, and the other bidders at the auction were wise to it. Oh well, I didn't spend much anyway.
Your obverse will not enlarge for me for some reason and the 20-S is noted for weak strikes. That being said, I still think it has been cleaned, but I am not sure about circulated.
That's okay. I really appreciate your expertise. It helps me learn. Fortunately, this was not an expensive lesson.
Still cool coins for a folder, but not likely candidates for grading. I am seeing some of these when roll searching lately. Older Wheat cents that have been cleaned or polished it looks like and dumped back into circulation. I do not understand why, but there were three in my last box searched. gary
