The Vatican has authorized the sale of 2010 50 eurocent coins encased in plastic cards. They sell for 6€ at the Vatican post office and anywhere from 8 to 12 at some souveneir shops in the area. This is the cheapest Vatican euro coin to date. Some 2€ commems are as cheap as $40-50. This is the perfect type coin for euro collectors on a budget.
And what is more, you can buy that coin card cheaper if you have a subscription with the Vatican "mint" (Uffizio). And even more, that coin is intended for circulation, so it is possible that you could get it at face. The bad part is that it is only one coin type, you won't get that easy the rest of them (only in BU and proof sets).
This is a good news to euro collectors, but I think that you can buy a hundred years old silver coin in a good condition for that amount
Sure, you can almost always find some coin that is less expensive than some other coin. Does not really help those, however, who are interested in the coins that this topic is about. By the way, the 50 cent piece dated 2010 has also been issued for circulation. That is, at face. Christian
