This coin made me feel good.

  1. I purchased a couple of these 2009 10Y Chinese 1oz silver Pandas.
It shows two baby pandas chewing on bamboo. They seem very happy and smiling.
I know some people may consider these generic bullion and some have issues with China on both the economic and politic fronts.
I respect both views, but put that aside for a second and look at the expression on the pandas' faces. Doesn't it make you feel good! Yes its cute!!, but so what. Cute is good. :)
I am pro cute coins. We need more cute in this turbulent world. Thoughts?

Best reason i know of for collecting any coin...CUZ YOU LIKE IT!

    (And yeah...they ARE kinda cute)

  4. Thanks.
I enjoy modern world 1oz silvers. Whether its Maples, Eagles, Kukabooras, or Pandas.
Collectible by date and .999 silver to back it. I don't see much downside, especially when the designs are pleasing to collect, and as you say, that's the best reason to collect, first and foremost.

Indeed...there is something about .999(9) that just gives a coin that extra "oomph", isn't there? :)

  6. Absolutely. I love silver. Especially when gold is in the four figures.
    Silver is monumentally undervalued.
I started with the Silver Eagles in 86 and also with Maples later on and with other similar sets from other countries.
I also like Britannias and Kukabooras.

Beautiful coin you have there. I always liked the Silver Panda coins.... I wish I had bought some when I had a chance to get them at very reasonable prices.... oh well. :)

I too like the other World 1oz silver coins. I have a Mexico 1985 un Onza Libertad as well as a 1996 1/4 onza. They have different designs, both beautiful.... The 1 onza has edge lettering, and the 1/4 onza has a reeded edge.
The 1/4 onza has a mintage of 50,000 and is a very beautiful coin, I inclue a photo of it.

    Mmmmm Plata Pura....

I also have a couple Maple leaf 1oz coins, and several extra nice Silver Eagles, including a 1994 that is NGC MS 69 and a 2001 Westpoint Mint Proof Silver Eagle, which is my favorite Silver Eagle.

I was never interested at all in Pandas. In fact I never knew why anyone would collect them.

But when I saw the 2009 in person I had to get one. It is a beautiful piece of silver! The different textured areas give it an interesting look. If you've seen one you know what I mean.

Wow! Great coins! I'm just starting so my collection mainly consists of circulated coins I've been getting as change but I sure can't wait to start collecting some of those beautiful silvers!

  13. I love what our US mint is producing for the most part, but when I look at what mints like the RCM and Pobjoy are doing, I'm thinking that they take it up a notch.
I fully understand the numerical dynamics involved and realize that our mint production is in the billions and as a result; quality control can suffer.
Our pinnacle is probably the Silver Eagles in proof. I consider them to be our finest current production coin.
Although some of the worldwide mints use marketing gimmicks that involve colorization, crystals, and fancy packaging, I do believe that some of their marketing is smart and we can learn a lot from it, just like they can learn a lot from us.
I'm glad you guys like this coin and thanks for sharing yours, keep em coming

I can understand what you are saying BustCoinageDude.

Here is my 2001 - Westpoint Mint Silver Eagle Proof. I have it with the fancy original case and all that it comes with from the mint. Beautiful coin, my favorite Silver Eagle. ;)

I haven't been able to find the mintage anywhere in my Krause books however.....

I hope the pics are okay, the first photo of the obverse, and the first photo of the reverse I am posting are slightly discolored, the photo that is, not the coin.... my camera does that sometimes.
