I picked this up at the show today- a 2 Francs Societe Generale de Belgique banknote. A little history here: http://numpszi.com/germannotes/faq_occupied_belgium_ww1.shtml I picked this up for about a dollar. The seller knew nothing about it. I was very surprised to find this: http://www.sixbid.com/nav.php?p=viewlot&sid=313&lot=557
The one franc is common but the higher denominations (two franc and up) are good notes. That is about a $30-40.00 note. Nice pickup.
Thanks! I'll have to ask the dealer how he came across this one and if he has any others. I understand the 1000 francs note has the portrait of Peter Paul Rubens.
Have never seen one myself until now. Very nice pick up. Thanks for sharing. You have really scored at this show based on all the threads you have up now! Congrats!
Great looking note from an interesting time in our collective history --- the war to end all future wars. Have an understanding that Belgium recognizes three official languages: French [Wallon?], Dutch [Flemish?] and German. Therefore, just love the different wording chosen: 2 DEUX FRANCS 2 [front] and TWEE 2 FRANK [back]. Thanks for doing the necessary research for the included [click-on] history lesson. That was a fun read. You done did good. Good on you!
