Is this Elymais coin real or fake?. I have a lot of elymais coins but I am not sure about this coin to be genuine.
It looks a little too good to be true for an Elymais. I'm sure I have the same concerns as you do. The style doesn't raise any immediate red flags, but the edge looks too perfect, everything is too centered, and are those small casting bubbles in the fields? Hard to say for sure from the photo. What's the weight and size like? If I saw this for sale and the price was below my curiosity threshold, I might buy it for a closer look. Otherwise, I would probably skip it, figuring it was a museum reproduction or something of the sort.
If you have "a lot" of coins from the little town of Elymais, you are the expert here. You tell us. You ought to write an article for The Celator.
My first impression was to accept the coin based on style which seems proper but I agree with eyestrain that the 'perfections' make it the sort of thing I'd not accept just from a photo. I also agree with mmarotta that anyone having a lot of these would be in a better position to have a meaningful opinion than would I. The worst thing I see about the coin is that you doubt it and you have had the coin in hand. The obverse looks good compared to others I have seen and I am not familiar with this exact reverse. Have you seen a lot of fakes from Elymais? I have not.
