I was looking on E-bay to get a rough estimate of how much my dime is worth. It's a 1936 however I don't see the mint mark on the reverse. I noticed many on E-bay were the same way... some were not. Was the mint-mark a high spot that was susceptible to rub and wear? If not why do some not have it? If you need a pic tell me.
Although mercury dimes have a great design most are not worth very much money except of course the 1916-D which is worth plenty. All of the mercs that were minted without mint marks were minted at the Philadelphia Mint where they didn't use mint marks on coins back then. Beautiful design, just not worth much I have at least 25 just to dress up my collection and b/c I really think the design is cool and they remind me of really good times growing up. Someone will add more, I'm sure of it.
Thanks, you have already solved the mystery thanks lots. And I agree with you... one of the coolest designs the US Mint has made.
The Mercury dims produced in Philadelphia didn't have a mint mark. Those stamped in Denver or San Francisco were marked with a D or S respectfully. There are many variations of Mercury Dime mint marks such as the 1928 large and small S and the 1942 micro S and normal S. That and error varieties such as upside down mint marks. etc make this set one of the most interesting to collect, although some of them are really scarce and expensive especially in higher grades. I just checked an online Numismatic price guide that lists a 1936 as having a value of $2-7 in circulated conditions. Of course the MS go for higher prices.
yeah I bought a bunch for .75 cents apiece before silver jumped. Not many key dates.IMO they are some of the bestcoins that the US has ever put out,
