Hey Guys A lady at the church I go to has been bringing coins that she has had for awhile wating me to look them over and see if anything was rare...some were from her Mother and dad that had died....and from in-laws and such...most weren't worth over a few dollars but this time I found something neat... (Most were....Wheat cents....and such ) #1....a hobo nickel....I don't know what is the value but a cool coin none the less.. #2....and this is what I need help with....it seems to be a $100 Bill from the State Of Louisiana...the back is blank but I read one place that sometimes the bills didn't have a printing on the baclk...yes...its been burned...its has tears...and isn't in good shape at all.....what I don't know is..... Is it real? What would it be worth? Thanks Speedy
It looks real, but in that shape, it won't be worth a whole lot. Check out this auction for the same bill....http://cgi.ebay.com/1863-State-of-Louisiana-100-Confederate-Bill_W0QQitemZ8370855533QQcategoryZ3414QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Thanks alot Becky...I didn't think it was a Contederate bill and so I wasn't even searching for that.... Thanks Speedy
That bill is really giving me an incredible sense of history - just imagine what that bill has seen. Was it burned in an attack on a plantation in the Civil War? Maybe damaged in a shootout after a bank robbery? For me, anyways, that bill aches with stories.
True Dave....the bill no matter how bad of shape it is in has a story behind it....I don't know how this lady got it....but I'm sure that is a story too Speedy
Thanks OldDan--I didn't see it right off....I'll go back later when I have more time and see for sure! Speedy
In my case I find the Hobo interesting because that definitely looks like an original Hobo nickel and not a more recent carving. It would really be interesting to know the story behind how that coin was acquired. Was it received from the hobo? and when? and why? Unfortunately the chances are that the people who rceived it were her deceased parents and the story is lost forever unless they told it to her. The coin itself is nice, but if it had the story tha went with it it would be MUCH more interesting.
Yes...both sides of family are dead....I don't know where this one came from....but her dad was in the Army in WW2....so I would almost bet that they got it sometime near then...my dealer guessed the value at about $25-$30. Speedy
