I don't get it. Why do you spend so much buying odds and ends? I mean, whatever makes you happy makes you happy but why not save up all those smaller purchases and buy something really nice that you're sure is real? Just a thought.
pretty much...I look for inexpensive things at swap meets and I sell on ebay for a premium..that's one of the reasons why I came across the coin I showed in question....I mean I made a pretty good buy for a coin I liked...and as far saving to get something better... I do...I have coins that carry value and that's because I do mostly layway on big-ticketed coins....mixing business with pleasure is my thing=) plus im too young to spend thousands of dollars for a single or couple of coins...
Funny had this conversation with a guy at work today. And in this case I would keep visiting the seller just in case. Basically - collections will change as tastes change. Not everybody can be focused on 1 set or a high grade set. He could not believe I let all my modern stuff go - that is what his is.
Already offered $110 by the local dealer. Pretty good return on a $10 investment. Not quiet always this easy.
kool, nice find, takes time and luck alot of the time to find a gem, but some pay a good dollar for what they need
@ maggie123...I did go to my local coin shop and it is real and he wanted to sell it to him for $110 and @ mark_h...it's true...it seems that my collection is focused on my barber half set but I tend to stray away once in a while to focus on modern slabbed commems./high grade morgans and ASE's... and also on Early Halves/Seated Coinage...so it's sometimes confusing as to what I really want to collect... -acsf89
another reason why it's easy for him to offer since I have been a customer of his for like 6 months now... helping me with my Barber half set...
Man, you are a true collector. I consider myself a pretty hardcore collector, and I would have taken the money.
I'm not driven about the money for my coins... it's about collecting and appreciating it for years to come... that to me is what a collector is all about=)
IMO from a numismatic perspective, many times having a variety of representative specimens is better than only having one great one.
Nice buy, If someone offered me a fake Bust Half for $10 I would likely pass unless I knew somehow that it was real (which you evidently did not). I guess you got lucky this time. You can buy a fake for much less than $10 on ebay. Ironically I was at a local flea market and the guy had a rare 1958 proof set in the flat pack marked $140. His worn common Morgans were $38. Needless to say I didn't buy anything. He was constantly blabbing about how high silver was going and kept talking about what Kitco was charging. Looks like the silver frenzy is on... Lack
thanks for the positive feedback=) its different seeing it in person than in the pictures....since in person, my gut instinct told me that it was real but the price said otherwise....I woudn't risk more than $10 for a coin that was marked fake.... but in my eyes looked real.... and @ lackluster I see a whole ton of those sellers in swap meets/antique malls selling their prized "pcgs 1922 peace dollar Ms63 for $120.00" im like...really???....also the person I purchased it from don't really sell coins...he sells antique buttons which are priced waaaay more than the coin I purchased.... well like I always say=) good luck and happy hunting -acsf89
