This is my 1st error coin to buy , I thought it was pretty cool.

its a 1945 P and the area that was laminated wrong that looks like its peeling up is very fragile , hard to imagine for 65 years it didnt manage to fall off.

    here are the pics.
I was just wondering what this would be worth as Im new to coin collecting and I wanted to have some type of machining error coin.

100_0601.jpg It's called a clamshell when it splits such that you can slide a piece of paper into the separation. It's not actually uncommon on the war nickels - the metal mix led to these and numerous other kinds of (more insignificant) laminations and such. Nice find, I think I paid $30 for mine (slabbed by ANACS). Like all errors on war nickels (and most other coins I guess), they are much more common on the P coins than D and then S.

Thats cool, I took mine out of the holder to put it in the new one, just to see the level of the raise. but I paid 20.00 for it, so I felt that was not to bad of a price.

The other one I bought was a 1984 5% off center strike for 8.00 dollars, but thats it for now, so thats the only 2 errors I have, hope to get more later.

Looks like your nickel goes alot deeper and its alot cleaner too.

is your 1984 off center another nickel? and is it off center on both sides or just one?

$8 sounds is a deal on that one. That error is much rarer on quarters than dimes or nickels or cents for sure.

My buddy said between moving he lost a quater that was I guess double stamped but way off center like a 50% off where you could see 40% of both parts of the quarter....I told him he needed to find it as I see they go for around 300.00.....
