Damaged Planchet or Struck Through?

    This is one of the new 2010 Poppy quarters just released. I found this a mint roll and there is a chunk gouged out of it.

    Is this a damaged planchet or a struck through?

    Looks like a planchet defect to me. Almost like there was a lamination peel on the planchet before it was struck. Nice find.

    i found myself in the same dilema with a coin that on which one guessed planchet defect and the mint errors specialist said strike through.

    I have one like it (on a park quarter) and it was a debris strike thru. It helped because i had 3 of them that were identical.

    looks like a struck through to me.

    Something to consider on Canadian coins is that they plate their dies before use. Sometimes the plating comes off. This happens near the rim area. But I agree with the Struck through error (grease) as the edges of the CENTS is weak near the un-struck areas.
