I want an old, late-40's Colombia 5 Centavos with the Liberty design, because it resembles a pattern coin struck by the U.S. in 1942 for testing possible cent compositions. I don't care if I get a really low-ball coin or a Gem BU, I just want one. Well, today I found one, but since I'm not an expert in foreigns, do you think it's cleaned? Thanks in advance for any answers, and here is the coin. http://cgi.ebay.com/Colombia-1946-5...679?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a5cf7c82f Cleaned, or not cleaned?
Even though the seller makes no reference to cleaning, I would ask him directly for his opinion. I do this regularly, and 80% of the time, I get a definitive answer one way or another. IMHO, I would say it looks okay. You have 7 days to send it back if your not satisfied.
Hard to say because of the angle the light is reflected from the surface. Asking the seller would be the best idea. My guess is that it wasn't cleaned. The price is low anyhow, i would have bought it.
It's weird how the protected areas have a much thicker patina than the field. I would say there's a pretty big possibility that it was.
