Hi guys, a few days ago I was given the opportunity to purchase this coin at a great price from my coin dealer so I bought it. I just wanted to ask if anyone can locate a value on this coin. My standard book of world coins says this coin in year 1926 is worth 800 but it has dashed lines for my 1927 v mintage. the 1926 has 60 thousand minted and this 40,000. Addiotanlly do you think the coin is safe from damamge in its current holder? or do you think its worth grading? thanks for any comments guys.
I found one (similar) on ebay.... I don't know if this helps at all: http://cgi.ebay.com/Albania-Pattern-5-Franga-Ari-1927-AU-Uncirculated-/370452221825
For nicer coins, I prefer a hard case. The one you have may have pvc which you will have to be careful with with storing coins. As for grading, I'll leave it for others to comment. Nice looking coin btw!
Along with the possible PVC in that holder i would also be concerned with it being able to slide around and getting small scratches on the the high points.
thanks for your responds guys and thanks ikandiggit for finding out more. I couldnt locate not one currently on sale online for some reason. Anyways I will get it grading? But what is pvc? Im getting a little worried because the majority of my coins are in those holders
PVC=Polyvinyl chloride, If your coins are in it get them out! PVC can destory your coins. There are tons of links on the web, you may want to do some research quickly on the subject, here are just a couple: http://www.pocketchangelottery.com/article96.htm http://coins.about.com/od/caringforcoins/f/pvc_damage_faq.htm I'm sure there are also lots of threads here on CoinTalk as well. By the way, very nice coin you got there!
Merlin is right, PVC is very bad. Alot of the newer flips are made of a "hard" plastic (like a thick mylar) that doesn't contain PVC. If they are soft and "rubbery" feeling, then they have PVC. If they are harder, like a plastic water or soda bottle, then they most likely do not contain PVC. This is not 100% though. It would be better, if you prefer flips and are unsure about content, to buy new PVC-free flips and replace them. Just my opinion.
i purchased about 100 of these cases 1 year ago from my coin dealer. The majority of my coins are stored in them so now I am a little concerned. I am going to head out tomorrow and find my coind dealer to question him whether these holders contain pvc or not.
Bad news guys contacted my coin dealer and he told me all of my cases have pvc. He gave them to me because he thought I intended them for short time use. My coins have been in a state of panic for 2 months now :/ I will switch the cases first thing this saturday. thanks again for your help guys
