how do i know what to look for when i look at a pricing guide and it shows dies, with arrows in different directions, like 1 up ,1 down or 2 up, or 2 down ect...i really dont know what this means. is there a certain thing to look for thats obvious.. thanks im still learning
I think you are referring to the orientation arrows (die axis). These show how each side of the coin relates to each other. Canadian coins have the same orientation unless shown otherwise. That is, if you hold the coin between your thumb and forefinger and spin it around, both sides appear right side up. U.S. coins when spun show one side up and one side down. Canada has "medal" orientation (both sides up) and the U.S. and other countries have "coin" orientation (one side up and one side down).
im new to this thank you very very much, so according to books some coins could be different in different years in canada?
Correct. The pre-1908 five cent silvers (and the 1919 five cent silver), dimes, quarters and fifty cent pieces were "coinage" after that date they were "medal".
I recently found a 2c Euro in a roll of cents while searching. I became aware that these have a medallion turn also.
