I found this and the mint mark caught my eye. I blew it up with my scanner as best I could. Looks like picks(oops-s/b 'pictures') of some RPM's I've seen, but not sure. Also saw a thread about a 1988 and discussion of whether an RPM is even possible. Please give your feed back.
It's not a repunched mintmark. The copper plating simply split around the "D" when the coin was struck. This is rather common.
What causes that? I would like to understand it better for the future. You guys are so great at spotting this stuff. I questioned it to start with because there were no clear lines of what I thought was the 1st "D" inside the loop of the 2nd "D". Was I even on the right track??? Thanks for bearing with me. I'm quite the amature at this kind of stuff.
