Got this one today. I was very excited about the condition. Not quite MS, but by far my best condition steel. Reverse is very very near MS. However, admiring it, I noticed this... Opinions? Yes, I know of the 1943 D Boldly Doubled Mintmark.. but this has more.. Thanks for any input!
That's where I need the input. I certainly see the doubling in the mintmark, but also in the date, most notably the 4.
Hi CharlesNC, and welcome to the forum! Since the mint mark was stuck by hand separately on the die, the chance of both being doubled is very very low, especially since they all appear doubled in the same direction. Also from the close up, there appears to be bubbles around the areas appearing doubled. Many of '43 cents were "reprocessed", by cleaning the surface and replating them. This often left small bubbles under the plate where areas were not cleaned well. It is hard to tell much from photos, but that is my observation, machine ( strike) doubling. Jim
