to keep or not to keep?

so ive been going through a box of pennies. im noticing a LOT of them from 1997 to 2009 that look like they came out of the mint yesterday. ive found nice ones before, but most of these look nicer than the 2010's. they are all in the same plastic rolls and are mixed with not as nice, mostly key years for canadian errors 76, 79, 85, as well as some 60's. i am starting to get the impression that someone went through uncirculated rolls looking for errors, as well as their older rolls, and rolled them back up all mixed up.

since i am fairly new to this i have not learned the grading process very well, other than ms-65 would have no marks or scratches. this http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php?canadian_coins=1-cent-1965-2010 says ms-65 is worth $25. should i separate them into year rolls and keep them? or sell them? or would the higher values be only for encased proofs?

Someone probably did go through them at one time. When you say that they look like they just came from the Mint, is that based upon an inspection with the naked eye or a loupe? You might be surprised how many flaws will appear under magnification, and the higher grades will suddenly disappear. Don't rely on any pricing guide for their value. You'll find their true value when you try to sell them.

i mean with a loupe, as i am error searching as well. i will post a pic tonight if i can. i know guides arent really accurate, they just tell whether its worth something or not.

heres some pics. lots of 78 too. some american mixed in too, in the same bulk years. i know most arent very old , but i gotta think not bad for 10 years old. im thinking no to very mild circ. on any of these. ill just show the front (too many pics). i did see some better, but this is a lot of rolls.

I just sold a batch of about 25,000 Canadian cents and included in it were several sealed plastic rolls of 1988 cents which someone will eventually open, sort and then put back into circulation. Unopened rolls of '80's and '90's cents still show up in bank boxes.

wow, really? so anyways are they worth it? did you get a good price? or are they only good to find the best one of each year for the display i want to make of all the years i can find. my oldest is a 1909 (either us or can) cant remember, and cant find it as i have pennies strewn all over the place. that is the big reason i wanted this question answered, so i can clean up and get on with other things than this box search.

I kept a roll or two of the sealed ones for myself and the others went into the bunch for sale. The majority of the cents were copper and I sold them for an average price of 3 cents each. The buyer was happy to receive some unopened rolls along with the older ones.

I still have a ton of pennies so it wasn't like I sold everything. It was just at the point where I wanted to turn some of the bulk back into spendable cash (and to get some of my floorspace back!:D)

was that an ebay sale? 3cents ea not too bad. just about copper price, and better than 1 cent ea. my bro says its hard to set up an ebay sale.

Nope...I posted it on Kijiji and got a response right away. The young fellow who bought them is also a bit of a wheeler-dealer and has made contacts with others with coins and banknotes for sale. He's brought some nice stuff over for me to look at (all for sale) and I'm going to make an offer on some of the items.

I sold pennies on ebay for a while.... got good prices but the problem with being in Canada is that the cost of shipping is ridiculous. I've only sold pennies on Kijiji, I wouldn't try any other currency (too risky).

I find Canadian pennies in penny rolls all the time, I generally keep them unless they look like they were dipped in acid (I find that a lot). Got a nice bag full of Loonies, 25c, 10c, 5c, and even 1940/50's cents.

Also, is it wrong to want to take the KG VI cent out of a donation jar?

so selling them locally is best. ok maybe ill try it, but i have a feeling that the emails will read " youre crazy, ill pay half a cent for each penny". they are used after all.

It doesn't matter what you sell, you'll get a bunch of those. Just ignore them. You find trolls everywhere.

ok one last question on this (i think) where do i stop it? 2010 are almost all nice. so throw everything in the spend pile that are newer than 08? 98? 88? my personal guess would be about 5 years ago, so 04. where would you stop? or would you? would you just see who wants to buy 2010's and older in shiny condition?
