Anyone else suffer from coin shopaholicism......just bought two coins recently 1822 Tertio Crown in Fine and an 1807 half penny in EF and feel decidedly dejected. Left thinking why on earth did I buy these coins? A very different feeling to the EF+ Secundo Crown I posted about recently that left me with a warm happy feeling. Perhaps when one has less money to spend there is a tendency to still buy, but I seem to buy some coins that I wish I hadn't. I put it down to coin shopaholicism.
I have the same thing....I too buy weird things when I have too little to buy what I want...I buy either cheap silver coins...dimes/quarters and after I receive it... scratch my head wondering...what on earth did i buy that for??? i feel your pain -acsf89
You should enter the Twelve Step program ... providing those twelve steps take you to a reputable dealer to offload! I know the feeling - fortunately, it's not as common as having a good feeling about buying. I may bring some of my spare UK coins back to the UK when I visit to sell them there - anyone need some Unc 3d 1937/8/9?
I'm not alone, that's comforting. Not sure offloading to reputable dealer is as easy as it sounds. Just sold a coin that cost me nearly $400 for $300 and they are listing it (NFLD 1C MS63) for sale at $700. Still, about 35yrs ago I bought a coin, my first, and didn't think there was anything suspicious (age 10) about the fact that they had sticky taped the coin to a piece of card. Needless to say when I got home and peeled the thing off the reverse was dreadful....that was unforseen and traumatic, but now I just wander into my coin retail therapy with eyes wide open and can, on occasions, still feel let down by my purchases.
Happens to everyone man. Try collecting ancients in the midwest of the US. The picking are so slim but I want to buy SOMETHING, I have ended up with US colonials, paper money, etc. A collector wants to collect, its in our blood, and when we go where we are programmed to ba able to buy, its a hard urge to overcome.
These ramblings make me think of the expression, "What's in today, may be out tomorrow and the reverse." Your coins that may not seem so attractive today, maybe sought afters in the nearer future. That is my spin on things. I really sort of think this way. Face it - they are not making any more of them!
