... I bought a few coins from a gentleman on Oct. 17 and have yet to receive them. He said he mailed them off on the 18th standard non-trackable postage. Where does the responsibility lie? We both have 100% feedback so let's say the coins got lost, is it now 'my baby' or does he have some responsibility? I won them at 56% of Numismedia Guide price, so it was a good deal for me... Thanks and I'll shut up for awhile....
It makes no difference if they are insured or not, the way eBay is setup now, it is the sellers responsibility to get them to you. Read the eBay buyer protection. If you don't get it, you get your money back. Period.
This happened to me also. Won an early colonial copper for half the going rate ($10 - $20). By the time I realized it wasn't coming and going back and forth with the dealer the 45 day buyer protection period was up. No big deal really, but act now or you'll wind up regreting it. Be sure to contact the dealer first and do the right thing.
Let the dealer know you will be submitting a grievance with eBay but would like to give him a chance to do what he can. Does he have proof of mailing? Can you compromise? Give him a chance to respond but don't wait too long. Hopefully he will try to protect his 100% rating and try to work something out.
The right thing is to talk to the dealer and explain to him why you want your money back. If he doesn't comply then contact eBay buyer protection. If the dealer agrees to refund you give him a + for the coins you bought.
It's only happened to me a few times and both times it was on coins that only cost a few bucks, but I told the seller I hadn't received them, they said to give it a little more time, I waited, still didn't get them, and then they refunded my money. It's not fair to the dealer if they honestly sent them but it's not fair for you to lose out either. And that's just how eBay works. The dealer will probably give you a refund because they want to keep you happy.
