Hi I am seeing a lot of milk spots on some A.S.E. I have been looking at. Has anyone out there noticed this on your coins?
Milk spots (what most folks call the whitish spots) are not uncommon on ASEs. They are the result of the washing process the planchets go through before striking.
In regard to its bullion value, no not a bit. But in in the eyes of those who collect these coins - yes. Collectors find the spots detracting and that they lessen the eye appeal of the coin. Thus even high grade slabbed examples with the spots sell for less than those without them.
