p.s. my own comments on the coin are as follows:
Nice toning, but not monster. Monocromatic light blue would turn off some collectors, and excite others -- not a broadly appealing toning pattern, and not a "no brainer NT coin" by my estimation. Reverse has some nice rim toning, but it's the reverse, and it's not a particularly valuable pattern. If wholesale for this coin was $50, I see it selling at auction on eBay with Shane's nice photos for $165.

I'm new to toners; I frugal; I like it. I'm going to guess you paid what I'd pay: $130

    Good morning everyone!

I thought it would be interesting to learn how some of you would respond knowing that it was a private transaction rather than an auction. I wish I had made it apparent from the beginning that I would be curious to know your responses for, both, private transaction and auction, not that auction estimates would have any bearing on the outcome, but just to see how the guestimates might change.

I thought the comments regarding the deep color and luster were interesting. What has me most curious is how this color formed. I'm wondering if this color isn't what some of the Tid-E-Bowl Morgans might develop into if they were to remain in the original storage conditions for a considerable length of time. I have several of the TB's, and it seems that they always begin with an irridescent blue around the rim with a honey-colored center. Is it possible that the blue expands into the central part of the coin until it completely envelops it? The small sliver of honey in the center of this coin makes me wonder.

Anyway, I purchased this coin and two other nice toners at the same time from Shane. He had sent me photos of his latest acquisitions, and I asked him if these were for his personal collection or if they were to be auctioned on eBay. They were for eBay. I can't thank Shane enough for letting me have them because I think he would surely have made more from the auctions.

I had really expect that someone would hit it "on the nose" since it was a private sale. Bahabully almost did, but he recanted and changed his guess after reading Duke's comment about my "frugality". So, the person who came closest to the actual price was......................coinman456 with $275. The actual price was $250, and I feel that it was worth every penny.

Coinman, you now have the privilege of posting another coin or passing this along to another person. If you choose to pass it along, let's try to get someone who hasn't had a chance.

    Thanks everyone!

    Chris

I'm late to the game but wanted to point out that the color of the photos has a slight blue-green cast, which you can see by comparing the four white prongs of the NGC holder to any white bordering the jpeg image. This cast might (I would think probably does) make the toning appear more intense than it actually is.

I like this toner and I'm sure it looks great in hand, but I thought the cast to the photos was worth pointing out.

Here is one that was a recent raw purchase of mine. It is a personal coin so I did pay a retail price. I just found it to have a very cool pattern. I dont recall seeing that they have to be certified pieces to be in this thread.

It appears to be FS . My guess would be $ 120.00

It would be most helpful if you would at least let us in on what grade you thought it deserved. I vote for 67*, but I don't think it will make FS.

You have expressed disdain at Lincolns in the past, but that sure remind me of my woodies.

    I'm thinking MS66 FS .

I agree. In order to guess what you paid for it we would need to know what grade the dealer assigned or at least what grade you thought it was. Otherwise this becomes a combination of a guess the grade on a stike designation coin along with a toning premium. That is tough to do from a photo. How is the luster? I think it has a shot at 67 if the luster is all there.

Well I thought it was a 66 & it doesn't qualify in my eye as FS.The seller called it a 65+ . It has very nice luster & there are some hues of green that are not being piced up in the picture near the lower rim.
I Just purchased it last weekend.

RLM I don't recall not liking Lincolns. Then again 5 years ago I disliked Seated coinage & I like it now so maybe I could have stated something at some point to make you think that about a series.

Well that does make a difference, but I'll stick with the price I posted. 65 WOW ! Pictures can be deceiving but that looked like a solid 66 to me, but probably not worth the grading fee unless it could make the FS designation . Very Nice coin IMHO

You made a couple of comments about unloading the dirty things and you did not want to mess with them when you were selling your bag. Maybe I read too much into it, but that is what I took from your statements.

That would make the going price $30 - $35, so I would guess $200, but then I am prejudice to that look.
