Fellow cointalkers I njeed your advice and wisdom on a couple issues. I have over 250 buys on Ebay and have had next to no problems. In the last 2 weeks I have had 3 and want some advice on how you would deal with each.

    1. I bought a 1951-S Franklin half nothing special but it was one i needed for my collection. When I received it I found it was packaged as a 1954-S and that's what it was. I contacted the seller who was very apoligetic and he said he would send me the 51-S and after receiving it I could send the other one back. He just contacted me again and says he is very sorry but he cannot locate the 51-S & if I will send the 54-S back he will refund my money and shipping cost. I think I am going to keep this one since i basically paid melt for it. My question here is do I leave positive feedback since he was accomidating in the situation, or just leave no feedback.
    2. I bought a 1953 Franklin and the seller contacted me while it was in route that the auction should have been for a 63. This one I will send back for a refund as I have quite a few 1963's in better shape. But I have the same question since the guy was very straightforward about it what should I do about feedback.
    3. The last one here is more Franklin halves, I bought 2 one night and 2 more the next day and they happen to be from the same seller. He received my paypal on 10/13 and when I contacted him this weekend he said he sent 2 out on that day when he got the payment and 2 the next he said he did not realize it was the same person who bought all 4. It is now 10/31 and I haven't seen either package yet. How long do you normally wait before contacting paypal about openning a case. Any advice you can give me on any of these scenarios will be appreciated. thanks

Your best bet is not to leave any feedback at all it show,s the seller you wern,t happy but
On the same token did not want to ding him with either neutral or negative feedback i,ts
Really the best way to handle this since a positive feedback would not be warrented since
    There was some issues here.

As far as pay-pal goes i believe it need,s to be at least 10 days before a case can be
Opened but you can check with them directly to make sure that is still there policy.

    1) Yes - you decided to keep it. He did everything he could.
    2) Yes again - he offered a refund. You take him up on it and it should work out.
    3) Contact the seller again and see if you can do some tracing. I would try to work with seller first, before going with paypal.

I buy and sell, so I see both sides.

    1. If you're happy and he seems honest, give him a good rep. If I was the seller and made that mistake, if I did have the 51-s, I would have sent you it and told you to keep the other one. But since he didn't have it, and you're happy with the 54-s, that's cool too. I'd give him a good feedback.
    2. Sounds fishy. Maybe he didn't get what he wanted for the 51-s, so he thought he'd give you the 63 and a story. I wouldn't leave any feedback.
    3. It's been two weeks. You should have gotten them by now, but I always wait three weeks before I start worrying.

For the first two ppl I would leave positive feedback with a small addition, like (wrong coin but all is fine and I kept it). As far as your last situation, isn;t there a tracking number? I gave one seller over 40 days, the package never even showed up and I got a refund, however after an additional month the package finally got to me after I had already gotten a refund for around $8. The envelope he sent was a very small even smaller than a letter envelope so I figure it got stuck somewhere and that's why it took over 2 months to get to me.

    1) This seller was honest and made an honest error. It happens. He offered to correct it at no expense to you. Would you buy from a store that offered no problems with returns ? I would and I think this one merits a positive feedback.

    2) Again, this seller caught this error before you even got the coin. I think by notifying you before you even received it shows a good, honest effort on his part to do right by his customers. In a perfect world, this wouldn't happen, but we all make a mistake. Again, I would give this guy a positive feedback.

    3) Something's wrong ! You need to contact the seller again and explain that the package was not yet received. Then you probably should open a claim. Maybe it was in a small envelope and got lost in the mail ? It does happen. That's why ANACS sends back coins in very large boxes I think. Harder to lose. Withhold feedback on this one until you are more informed.

You know, the guys selling on eBay for the most part are guys just like us. We want a fair and equitable transaction that satifies all parties. But one in a while someone sends the wrong order, misships an envelope or something. Unless I feel dishonesty or misleading statements in a listing, I will give a positive feedback. I don't see any reason to ding someone when they are trying to be fair. And unless I feel the seller is being totally dishonest I might not leave any feedback if I am less than satisfied. I may have mis-understood exactly what I was buying ? I like to give the benefit of doubt, because sometimes I get it wrong and I know it.

I once got a poor feedback for charging $3 for Priority Mail Shipping that cost me $4.70 +19c because the buyer thought my shipping fees were too high. Go figure ?

WHAT????????!!!!! Even if your shipping cost was less then $3 the buyer should have figured the shipping cost into his bid. people these days...

Positive feedback is warranted for a "Problem free" transaction even if you don,t suspect some
Kind of deception on the sellers part you did not get this so it,s a pretty simple answer for
    Most people....LOL

Thanks everyone for the advice, my inclination was to go with positive on the first 2 because I feel they were very upfront and honest, and having managed manufacturing facilities I know these things happen. My problem with the third one is he says he shipped this out in 2 shipments one day apart. What are the odds of 2 packages getting lost. I will wait till the end of this week, I have also sent him an e-mail asking about tracking info. thanks again for the imput.
