Could someone do me a favor and look in Krause or whatever and tell me what weight Liberian silver coins are. I believe they are either 0.75 or 0.8 time the weight of American and would like some confirmation please.
Which coin out of the 32 pages of Krause under Liberia did you mean. ? As for Weight, do you mean ASW actual silver weight ? Most are 0.9990 silver.
Any of them. They are all the same ratio to American coinage. They used to be on the American dollar. And, no, they are not 0.9990 silver. They are coin silver or 0.90. Actually, just give me the weight of a quarter and dollar. 1960 should do.
According to my outdated Krause, they are made of coin silver. The quarter of 1960 is 0.1499 ounces of silver. (the quarter of 1906 was heavier containing 0.1725 of an ounce) There was no dollar coin minted in 1960 but the 1961 dollar coin had 0.6001 ASW. I hope this helped.
I just dawned on me what you are seeing. They had a bunch of non-circulating coins made (I believe by the Franklin mint). Those could well be 0.9990 silver. I should have asked for only the circulating coins. Those would only be dated 1960 - 1962.
