I found this in a box of coins I inherited from my Grandparents. Is it a clipped planchet? If so, what's it worth?

    Any help is appreciated.

It looks clipped, but clips usually are into the coin, not bulged out. If it is a clip, it is worth $5

Usually a straight clip (on a planchet) will end up being curved after striking.

That would had to have been clipped by a rather large diameter die...but I am no expert...

I could be mistaken but I was under the impression a clipped planchet occurs during the making of a planchet, where, while planchets are being punched out the machine punches a spot on a rolled sheet where a planchet has already been punched, making an incomplete planchet.

The planchets that would come from the left side would have a ragged clip. The ones at the top edge would have a straight cli and the ones from the center area would have a curved clip

It might be a double clip. The right looks like it might have been an edge because I think it is slightly curved and to the southwest right at the "O" looks like what may be a small clip ?

As you can see in the diagram (posted above) straight clips occur when the planchet is punched out too close to the edge or end of the sheet.

I see nothing to indicate it is not genuine but it is not possible (for me) to say for sure one way or the other based on those photos. I see what appears to be the Blakesley effect opponsite the clip. (The small rim appears to have been formed by the dies, not by the upset mill.) The formerly straight edge is now curved out as expected. (More metal squeezing out from near the center.) But with those photos I can't see clearly enough whether the letters are flowing toward the clip. Again I see nothing to indicate the coin is not genuine.

i see rim damage opposite the 'clip'.

That would be the Blakesley effect (assuming it is a genuine clip).

It looks like a real clip.
