I was looking at the Krause manual and noticed that these coins have a PLVS/PLUS variation. I tried looking at the coin very closely but I CANNOT find PLVS/PLUS on the coin. Where should I look for it? grrr I need a very powerful magnifier!!!! http://www.allcollection.net/spanish-of-10-cents-coin-1941~x19734957 Thanks for your help.
It's in the ribbon on the left column on the reverse. Probably not visible on a coin in less than XF condition.
Wow! So much intricate detail in that coin!! I have so many of those and none with lettering on it!!!
Right, it is really hard to see. Here for example is a pretty large image, and the decisive parts of the text are still difficult to read: http://images-05.delcampe-static.net/img_large/auction/000/106/861/036_001.jpg As far as I know, there is a second variety - with the "Latin style" VNA instead of UNA. By the way, the small unit of the peseta was called céntimo. So this is a 10 céntimos coin. While "peseta(s)" was often abbreviated PTA(S), "céntimos" was sometimes written as "CENTs" or "CTS" ... It is a coincidence that a Spanish blog wrote an entry yesterday about this : PLUS y PLVS en las monedas de Franco (PLUS and PLVS on Franco's coins) http://numismatico.wordpress.com/2010/10/28/plus-y-plvs-en-las-monedas-de-franco/ It is Spanish, but feel free to ask for some translation.
