Interesting playground find

    I guess my 7 year old is destine to collect coins too. He found this on the school playground today.

    Nice little find Moen, I believe that it is from Somalia amd proberly brought back to the US by one of the guys who did a tour of duty over there :)

    It feels likes its made of pure zinc or something even lighter.

    Yep, Somalia. And according to the SCWC it is an aluminum piece.

    The coin has a date of 2000. We were in Somalia when?

    While a coin found on a playground in Illinois does not necessarily have a military background of course :D De Orc may well be right. For example, the US, France and Germany - possibly others too, don't know - all have a military presence in "neighboring" Djibouti. (Neighboring in inverted commas since the whole area is kind of a mess, and Somalia as a country does not really exist any more.)

    But before we drift into politics, let us rather assume that some kid collected coins with cool animals, and accidentally lost it there ...

    Chris is proberly right I believe US involvment in Somalia was around 93/4?, Moen can I ask if it has got your little one interested in collecting?/
