I found this Martinique 1897 50Cent in the 25cent bin at the coin shop, I know it's not silver, but was wondering about a mintage? I know it's in poor quality. Also, this silver Spanish 1866 40c... I was wondering about the silver content, and ASW. I also have this 1861 Prussia Thaler, beautiful coin, in great shape.... sadly someone carved a date in each obverse field I got it for melt value not too long ago, I have always loved the two busts on the obverse, and wanted one for a while... So, I was also wondering the ASW and fineness of the 1861 Prussia Thaler if anyone has it at hand.. I also got this little Wurttenburg 1868 Silver Kreuzer, and I still just love my ND1839 Frankfurt Silver Kreuzer with the city view... beautiful coin... but very hard to get a good photograph of the city view on such a tiny coin. I also have two French Revolution Era bronze coins I could use some help with, one is pretty badly worn... I will put up some photos of them in this thread when I get a chance to take some a bit later this week.
Martinique 600,000 struck $15 in VG $25 in F. Spain 5.1920 grams 0.8100 silver 3 variaties depending on how many points on the star 6, 7 or 8. I don`t have the Prussian coin listed.
I found your Prussian coin, I was looking in the wrong place. 18.520 grams 0.9000 silver 1,000,000 mintage. Shame about the carving.
Thank you, just what I was looking for. It appears the Spanish coin has two 6 pointed stars on the reverse. It sure is a shame about the carving, it says. '24/3/83' on the right, and '27/3/83' on the left.... so dates. The coin looks nearly Unc. too.
The French Revolution Era Coins So I took some photos of the two French bronze coins I have. All photos are of the same two coins. I can post more shots of different angles and such if needed. I was looking for any information at all on them, such as which King Louis is on the first one, and if possible, and I know niether have a clear date, but maybe someone knows when these types were struck. I have very little info right now. The Republic coin has a very nice edge all the way around, and a nice obverse, but that large wear spot on the reverse makes it a bit harder to figure out, all that is readable is part of the 'cinq centimes' legend ' 5 centimes' so that's all I know.
The first one is a 12 Deniers with Louis XVI, dated 1791/92 or 93, Paris Mint worth around $2.50 - $4 in VG. #2 is 5 Centimes dated between 1796 and 1800 Paris Mint with Liberty head, about $4 -$10 in Good.
Gracias Again, thank you. Just what I was looking for. I would like to try to find a better example of the Louis XVI type eventually, and I wouldn't mind to get myself a silver one of him either... I like the French Republic 1796 - 1800 A 5 centimes, even with the wear, it is appealing, and the edge is nice... I have some later 19th century French Republic coins with similar wear on the reverse center. like these first two 1872 A - 1 Franc and 1874 A 5 centimes. They both have an anchor privy mark on the right side, and what looks like it could be a bee or a fly on the left. This 1915* - 5 centimes with the torch privy mark on the right with a star below it, and what could be a snail on the left and the 1903 25 centimes, which has the torch right, and snail looking thing left are just my nicest early 20th century French non-silver coins. Sadly the 25 centimes has a ding on the obverse. Most of these coins I have paid less than a dollar for, I think I paid $2. for the 1872 A silver franc... but not the Prussian or German states ones or the Spanish 40c de escudo either heh.... but I did pay just .20 for a 1906 - J German East Africa 1 Heller .. pretty nice too.
German Ostafrika 1 Heller - 1906 - J mintage: 1,962,000 Some noticeable wear but it looks pretty good to me. I got these pics through a coin flip. I found the J is less common than the A... I only have the Standard Catalogue of World coins 1901 - 2004. Yep, .20 cents well spent for this one I say.
